Do you ever buy season’s passes to attractions or events?
Season’s passes are a great idea. That is, of course, if you use them.
Through the years, we have bought seasons’ passes to a number of places—the art museum, the botanical garden, the symphony and theater—but sometimes we haven’t attended enough of the events to make it worth the expense.
Ever since we “discovered” Gibbs Garden, about an hour’s drive from us, we’ve bought season passes. But last year, the spring and summer flew by, with Gibbs’ flowers peaking and dying and colors coming and going. We went once, in the fall, shortly before the garden closed for the winter.
So this year, we made a pact to go as often as we can. One beautiful morning last week, we wandered through, taking photos and taking names of flowers we want to plant in our yard.
Most of the daffodils had come and gone by then, but the tulips!
Oh, the tulips.
And I found my new favorite daffodil.
Hello, gorgeous! Her name is Salome, and her center is a peachy-pink. She’s a stunner.
And check out these Japanese maples. The color was a muted dusty rose, even in full sun.
And then this little surprise.
A real-live toad stool! It looks like it’s covered in lace.
I’ve only ever seen these in books. There didn’t seem to be any fairies hanging around though.
And these little jewels. So dainty and delicate. You could easily walk right past them if you aren't paying attention.
A place like Gibbs Garden makes me want to pay attention. It makes me stop and stare at big swaths of flowers on the hillsides and then kneel down to look at the details of a single bloom. I’m grateful for the chance to experience beauty like this. I’m grateful to the original Master Designer who made it possible.
